PHARMACY STRATEGY: High Value Pharmacy Enterprise (HVPE)
A great tool that I have added to my strategic planning situational analysis is the High Value Pharmavy Enterprise (HVPE). A panel of pharmacy leaders used an evidence- and expert opinion–based approach to define core and aspirational elements of practice that should be established within the contemporary health-system pharmacy enterprises by calendar year 2025.
HVPE framework has a total of 94 statements and 336 performance elements in 8 domains:
1. Patient Care Services
2. Business Services
3. Ambulatory and Specialty Pharmacy Services
4. Inpatient Operations
5. Safety and Quality
6. Pharmacy Workforce
7. Information Technology, Data, and Information Management
8. Leadership
Are you using HPVE in your situational analysis? If not, Download this situational analysis template that has a table to document your HPVE assessment.
CAREER DEVELOPMENT: New Leader Assimilation
When starting in a new role, conducting a session called a new leader assimilation is a great way to support successful onboarding.
The New Leader Assimilation, which originated at General Electric, is a technique to compress the period during which a new manager and the people who work for him/her “sound” each other out to become acquainted with their respective operating styles and expectations. New leader assimilation is intended to jump-start that process within the first two months of a new leader's role.
In short, the process includes:
- Questions posed to Team by a facilitator... Answers recorded on flip charts
- Brief overview of responses provided to manager without Team present
- Leader reviews questions/responses with Team members.
I love this technique and I wish more leaders used it.
Let me know if you have used this technique or if you want to learn more about it.
FUN & JOY: Gratitude Habit
Do you believe a life well lived is one of gratitude and thankfulness. I do but I often do not stop and smell the roses to appreciate it.
- In the famous words of Ferris Bueller, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
Here are some tips to make gratitude a habit for you.
- Don’t be picky: appreciate everything
- Find gratitude in your challenges
- Practice mindfulness
- Keep a gratitude journal
- Volunteer
- Express yourself
- Spend time with loved ones
- Improve your happiness in other areas of your life
Taking care of the Self quadrant of your connector life is crtical.
What are you going to do to increase your gratitude habit?
